Nothing Is Strange by Mike Russell

- Goodreads Synopsis -
20 mind-expanding short stories.
Inspiring, liberating, otherworldly, magical, surreal, bizarre, funny, disturbing, unique... all of these words have been used to describe the stories of Mike Russell so put on your top hat, open your third eye and enjoy: Nothing Is Strange

"My life appeared strange because it was one way and not another. Only if it had been every possibility at once would it have not appeared strange. And that is what I am now: every possibility at once. And nothing is strange."

I can't lie.. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I picked up Nothing Is Strange by Mike Russell. Nothing Is Strange is the complete opposite of it's title! THIS WHOLE BOOK IS EXTREMELY STRANGE! But no one ever said that strange had to be bad.. different has always been good in my opinion!

First off, I have to say that Mike Russell has a creatively vivid mind! I  have no idea how he came up with these extremely odd, yet relatable stories. Nothing Is Strange is made up of multiple different short stories that will blow your mind and challenge the way you think. I personally really enjoyed the stories in this book. Each story has a very specific meaning/ lesson, but each reader could interpret each story differently. I can honestly say that I learned a lot from Russell's short stories and I can almost guarantee that no two readers will gain the same exact knowledge from this book.

You definitely have to have an open/creative mind for this book. If you are a person who likes to read the facts and not have to think too much about what you are reading, then Nothing Is Strange is not for you. I think I had to re-read the first story a few times and then I got used to Russell's writing and was prepared for the rest of the book. I really enjoyed the short stories because they are not something I would normally read. It was awesome to have think, and try to figure out the meaning behind every sentence. I feel like Russell's sentences spelled out one thing, but meant something completely different. I had a blast interpreting each story and figuring out the point of each one. I can honestly say that there are still a few stories that I haven't completely figured out yet, and I am okay with that. In a weird way.. I feel like this book was not meant to be understood. I don't think Russell wrote this thinking that every single reader was going to walk away from this book knowing exactly what each story meant.

Mike Russell has a wonderful way with words! I was surprised with how well I pictured all the weird scenes and characters. Russell completely took me into his Strange world and allowed his characters and scenes to flow, one after the other, throughout my head. A few stories that I really enjoyed were: Dunce, The Meeting, Wharehouse, Barry and The Triplets, and Leslie Visits the Barbers. I wish I could tell you all about each story, but I am going to leave that for Russell! If you are interested in completely strange, weird stories that could possibly have millions of different meanings, then this book is for you!

Dark Dreams and Dead Things by Martina McAtee

- Goodreads Synopsis -
17-year-old November Lonergan spent her whole life feeling like an outsider. She was right. She’s a reaper like her mother; like her two cousins, Kai and Tristin. The supernatural world believes they are part of a prophecy to save them from an evil known as the Grove. Ember just wants to survive high school and fix the fallout from bringing back her friend.

Old enemies are lurking; waiting for their opportunity to strike but the pack has a new problem. A group of legendary hunters has resurfaced, threatening the reapers and anybody who stands with them. They are making good on their threats too; attacking those closest to the pack.

Their only hope of defeating the Legionaries involves trusting a stranger to perform a dangerous spell to advance Ember and her cousin’s powers. But Ember has a secret; a secret she can’t tell the pack. One that leaves the pack vulnerable.

An attack on pack allies, leaves one member of the group injured and another missing, along with a mysterious girl named Evangeline who may play a bigger part in this than any of them realize. As the Legionaries are closing in, the pack must trust their enemies, enter hostile territories, and play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a psychopath. Their entire plan lynches on a dangerous bargain, but rescuing one member of the pack could mean losing another in their place…possibly forever.

"Her magic was happy for Mace's return. As always, it stretched from Ember, reaching for his magic, wanting to play"

Martina McAtee never disappoints! I was so excited to finally read this book! It is definitely bigger than the first book, which makes it that much better! Big books about witches, werewolves, fairies, reapers, and the dead are the best kind of books!

Dark Dreams and Dead Things is the second book in the Dead Things Series! In this book we get to jump back into Martina's world and see all our favorite characters and then some! Book two starts up right where the first book left off. Mace is trapped, Quinn is back, and Tristin still hates Ember. The only thing that has changed is that the three cousins found out that they are part of something special. Ember, Tristin, and Kai are part of an old prophecy, which makes many people fear them. The grove is starting to figure the prophecy out, and in the meantime, children are going missing, packs are being slaughtered, and the cousin's can't get their powers to work. Ember, Kai, and Tristin are the only ones who can stop everything. The only problem is, is that without Mace.. Ember is magicless. Ember can get Mace back, but on one condition. Will she give up her magic? Is there another way?

"You know that the good of the many is greater than our little love story. No matter how epic it seems to us."

I didn't think it was possible to top the first book, but I was wrong. This book was absolutely amazing and I love all the new characters, especially Evangaline! It was a nice twist and I feel like she made Ember feel a little less alone, since their powers complimented each others. On top of all the new characters, there are also many different stories going on throughout the book. We have Mace's and Ember's story, Kai's and Rhy's story, Tristin's and Quinn's story, and then the packs story! That is all I can really say about them because I do not want to give anything away! You will have to pick up the first book to figure out what is going on with all these amazing characters! As I stated before, these books are huge, but Martina is able to grab your attention and keep it until the very last page. Once you begin reading, you don't even realize how big the book is because you are so consumed with the characters and the story. One thing that I noticed right away, and really enjoyed, were all the Harry Potter references! Yay for HP!

""So what do you want to do until morning?"
"I could make the ceiling look like Hogwarts again?" Quinn suggested.
That was one of Ember's personal favorites; floating candles were awesome.

Martina McAtee's writing is so descriptive and so beautiful that she really brings you into her world. She creates such a dark, yeyt beautiful place in the readers mind. There were a few characters that I did not enjoy too much, but there were so many that I did enjoy! It is so easy to get swept up into each characters problems that you begin to feel as if you are that character. Martina did an amazing job allowing the reader to relate with her characters. Books are million times better when the reader likes/relates to the characters. It was nice to see how far the characters have come since the first book, and I loved seeing them develop throughout book 2.

Dark Dreams and Dead Things kept me on my toes the whole time! This book was the total opposite of predictable and I was freaking out the whole time because I had no idea what what going to happen next. I enjoyed how the book was told in different points of view. As a reader, I love being able to see inside the minds of multiple characters, instead of just the main character. I really love books with multiple points of veiw!

Okay, so you all seriously need to read this series! Martina McAtee is absolutely amazing and I have no idea how all this comes from her mind! The story is awesome, the characters are awesome, the magic is awesome and everything is just AWESOME!

The Color of Us by Laura Ward & Christine Manzari

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Eighteen year old Alexis Sinclair is lost in the darkness of grief. Since the death of her sister in a car accident, she can’t find the will to get out and enjoy life again. When she’s forced to face her biggest fear and take a summer Driver’s Ed course, she’s surprised to find hope in the most unlikely person.

Liam O’Connell is trouble. He isn’t proud of his dark past, and he knows Alexis is the one girl he has no business pursuing. Doing the right thing has never been easy for him, but this time, it just might be impossible.

The perfect girl and troubled boy are all wrong for each other, but as Liam helps Alexis cope with her grief, they realize nothing has ever felt more right.

That is, until Alexis uncovers a secret about Liam that breaks her heart.

Liam knows he can’t allow the one good thing in his life to walk away without a fight, and he’s determined to convince Alexis they can find their way out of the darkness together. Can he prove he’s worthy of her, or is some love too tainted to be saved?

"Who knew the boy in black would be so vibrant."

After reading The Color of Us by Laura Ward & Christine Manzari, I found myself wondering why I have never read the first book in the College Bound Series. This book was incredible! How have I been living without this series in my life?

The Color of Us is about a young girl named Alexis. Something traumatic happens in her life and leaves her afraid to get behind the wheel of a car. I guess you can automatically assume that it has something to do with an accident. Alexis is fine with never driving, but her parents force her to learn how. She meets a boy in traffic school. Alexis doesn't particularly like this boy, but something about him really intrigues her. Alexis and Liam's life will never be the same after traffic school. These two become extremely fond of one another.. until Alexis learns about Liam's family. Could Alexis date a man who hid this from her? How can Liam keep something so big from her? This is enough to end Alexis and Liam but will it? Liam is determined to prove his worth to Alexis.. can he?

"I was meant for sin. Until I met you. Until you saved me. And with every touch and every kiss, you healed my soul."

I did not really know what I was expecting when I picked up this book! The only thing I knew was that it was a very colorful book and that one of the author posts AMAZING bookstagram photos (Christine Manzari)! As I began to read, I became more and more caught up in the characters and the story. I read this book in one sitting because there was no way I was going to be able to put this book down after I started it. Yes, this book is a very sweet, intense love story, but it is also so much more than that. This book is full of happiness, yes, but also sadness and betrayal. This book will make you feel every emotion possible. But that is how you know a book is good.. That is how you know a book can really grab a reader.

We not only learn a lot about Alexis, but we also get a good glimpse into Liam's life. Liam does not have the best reputation in town. People don't know about the problems Liam has at home or about what he is dealing with inside. As the reader, we are shown Alexis's traumatic experience right off the bat, but not Liam's. When Ward & Manzari finally threw Liam's story at me and all the information about his brother, my heart broke. It was such a huge surprise and totally changed the whole story. I love the detail and thought she put into her characters. When they were sad, I was crying, and when they were happy, I was super excited for them!

"He wasn't trouble, he was pure temptation. What scared me was how much I liked it."

I am completely obsessed with the two author's writing and I need more of it. No, I am not exaggerating! This book won me over and I am now a huge fan! I am definitely going to read out more books by the two of them. I know I have said this already, but every part of this book was just so well thought out. Just thinking about the characters and all the little sweet things Liam did for Alexis and her family makes me so happy. This is a book I will definitely reread and it is super hard for me to write this review because I can't really say much more without spoiling it! All I can say is that Alexis has some great friends and that Liam is TOTALLY book boyfriend material!

I honestly just love this book and the more I think about it the more I remember little things that I forgot about. This book has it all! Friends, family, love, hope, drama, breakups, death, and so much more! This is not your average romance book and it is definitely a MUST READ! What are you waiting for?

Today's Promises by S.R. Grey

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Starting over isn’t easy, especially when the past keeps coming back to haunt you.

Flynn O’Neill and Jaynie Cumberland thought life outside the foster care system would be a breeze. Now eighteen and sharing a home in the quaint, little town of Lawrence, West Virginia, their new start should be nothing short of idyllic.

Unfortunately, it is not.

Flynn and Jaynie are discovering that picking up the pieces of their shattered lives and moving forward is far from easy, particularly when the past keeps rearing its ugly head. And then, as if things weren’t tough enough, they are told the evil Allison Lowry, their former foster sister, may be released from prison early.

Committed to not allowing that to happen, Flynn and Jaynie begin to search for ways to keep their former tormentor behind bars. In doing so, dark secrets are uncovered. But instead of setting this young couple back, these new developments allow Jaynie and Flynn to grow closer than ever. As their commitment to one another deepens, these two broken people find new purpose and, more importantly, realize the healing they so deeply desire is finally within reach.

Today’s Promises is the beautiful, stirring conclusion to Flynn and Jaynie’s journey that first began in Tomorrow’s Lies.

"Facing your demons head on, the ones from the past, that crap is never easy."

I read Tomorrow's Lies by S.R. Grey and absolutely fell in love with the story and her characters. I have been waiting SO LONG for this second book to be finished! Today's Promises was absolutely amazing and did not disappoint me at all! This book went above and beyond all my expectations. I do not know how I am going to be able to write this review because S.R Grey has given me the biggest book hang-over I have ever had!

Today's Promises picks up right where Tomorrow's lies ends. I can not tell you how happy I was to jump back into Jaynie and Flynn's story! If you read the first book in the series, then you know that the two were living in a terrible foster home. Their experiences in the system and in Mrs. Lowrey's house have scarred them and are still haunting the couple to this day. How do they move on? How do the two of them live a normal life after their horrible past? Even with their former foster parent behind bars, is it possible to just forget everything? This book is about Flynn and Jaynie trying to keep the Lowrey's behind bars for as long as they possibly can. You will not imagine the plans these two come up with! After a while, the couple discovers something about Mrs. Lowrey, and her daughter, that could keep them in jail for years. That is exactly what Jaynie and Flynn want! They are now more determined than ever to prove that Mrs. Lowrey is guilty! Unfortunately, I can not tell you what she might be guilty of, beacuse that would ruin the story for you! You need to pick up a copy of this book to find out for yourself! This is a series you definitely do not want to miss out on! I would love to say more, but I think I gave enough away already. It is really hard to talk about this book without giving any spoilers! I could go on and on about this book for hours!

As I said when I read the first book, I love stories about the foster care system. People do not realize what goes on in some houses and that the foster care system can be very corrupt at times. I am blown away by this story. S.R Grey has an amazing mind, and I can not believe that she put this story together. Grey's writing is so vividly, beautiful! I can totally see this series becoming a movie. As I read, her words turned into scenes right before my eyes!

I fell absolutely in love with all of S.R. Grey's characters all over again! Is that even possible? Can you fall in love with characters twice? Her characters are so complex and well developed it is hard not to! Each character has a well thought out background that really makes who they are in the book now. You can't love a book if you don't love the characters. I absolutely love Flynn and Jaynie's relationship! He will always protect her and is ready to do absolutely anything for her. These two are really something special. Flynn is definitely book boyfriend material! In all honesty, every character in this book is special. Each charcter has such a big meaning in this book, that without one of them, this book would not be the same. It has been a while since I have read a book with characters that I love as much as the characters in this book.

S.R. Grey really has a way with words and she proves that with these amazing books! Once I started this book, I knew there was no stopping. I couldn't part with this book until the last word was read. I am a forever fan! If this series is not on your TBR list.. it really needs to be! I promise you will not regret picking up this book!

*Fun Fact*
My review for the first book in this series, Tomorrow's Lies, is the most shared/viewed post on my blog! I was a little nervous writing this review, because I knew it had to be just as good, if not better, than the first one.

Filling The Void by Zainab T. Khan

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Two incomplete individuals who meet in the unlikeliest of circumstances, just to be whole again. Fate sure loves an extravagance.

After the sudden death of her beloved Granda, Candice Davis finds herself unable to play the piano. With her best friend gone and her passion blocked, Candice decides to return to her hometown in Rozenne to volunteer at her favorite place in the world: Greenwich Orphanage. Between Nathan, Jake, and all of the other orphans, Candice believes her life is finally filled with love, but then she meets James.
He’s tall, stubborn, and smells just like her woodworking Granda. He’s also invisible. Literally. And though Candice doesn’t seem to notice she’s the only one who can see him, Candice senses something is off about him—and her life.
Torn between an impending adoption and a terrible accident, Candice has to solve the mystery of James and learn to play the piano again, or she’ll never fill the void of her broken heart.

"Every time he was close to me, the surroundings became colder. James Wayne left chills in his wake."

Filling The Void by Zainab T. Khan is a very unique paranormal story! I was not expecting this story line and it is very different from your average paranormal book. I was so sure that this book was about ghosts and then BAM, it wasn't. The ending definitely surprised me, and the book kept me extremely entertained!

Filling The Void is a short, sweet story about a boy named James, who can not be seen by the world. James had an awesome life full of money, riches, and parents who were always traveling. Jame's world was turned upside down the day he upset the wrong person. How would you handle being invisible? How could James be visible one day and then invisible the next? Could you go from interacting with the world, to never speaking to anyone ever again? James is slowly getting used to being invisible and alone, until a young woman named Candice spots him. You read that right! She can actually see him! This is when the book really begins! James reminds Candice of one of the things she misses most in this world. Candice and James will never be the same. These two begin to help each other in ways they would never expect.

I really enjoyed this book! I looked at the page count and was a little confused with how short the book was, but don't let that page number turn you away! This book is packed with friendship, love, family, tears, happiness, and so much more! I am completely blown away with all the detail, characters, and stories that Zainab T. Khan packed into these pages. I was impressed with the fact that Khan gave us multiple different stories in this book. A few of the characters have their own stories going on in the background of the book. As a reader, you are able to understand the main characters better, as well as some others, by seeing into their life and daily thoughts. This may be why I enjoyed the characters so much! Khan's characters were absolutely amazing, and I really do mean it! I immediately fell in love with every single one of them. Each character is well developed, which allows the reader to really follow the story, as well as the character, better. I found myself getting sad when Candice was sad, and happy when she was happy. I love it when an author can really draw in the reader, and allows the reader to feel as if he or she is in the book with the characters.  I really liked Khan's writing style. I felt like her style was a bit friendly and familiar, which really grabbed my attention. I was hooked immediately and I had no choice but to continue reading this book until the very last word.

You really don't want to miss out on Candice's and Jame's story! The ending will really surprise you and make you want to read more of Zainab T. Khan's work. This is the first book I have read by Khan, and I can honestly say that I am eager to read more.

Capering On Glass Bridges by Jessica Hernandez

- Goodreads Synopsis -
The Utdrendans have spoken, and everything has changed as a consequence. People normally avoid the fog surrounding the cursed Kingdom of Mar, but now they are asking sixteen-year-old Kaia Stone to venture into it. The Utdrendans implied that there is something special about Kaia. They claimed that she could help free the land; she need only carry out their instructions and deliver a message to the Marian king.

Mar, however, is a land in which dark secrets abound, and many will stop at nothing to ensure that it remains forever cursed. Determined to work against Kaia, unfriendly forces have already begun to gather.

Will Kaia choose to abandon the only life she’s ever known—perhaps indefinitely—in pursuit of the greater good…in pursuit of her purpose?

Capering On Glass Bridges is very unique and unlike anything I have ever read. Jessica Hernandez takes you into this fantasy world where canonipoms are life partners, curses are real, and quests are in full effect.

We are introduced to three Greylandian sisters: Kaia, Taria, and Elania Stone. The book starts off with Taria's canonipom pairing, which I thought was really unique and awesome. Each person has a right to a canonipom, but why didn't Kaia get one? The stone family is invited to the capitol for a dinner with a few really important people. This is a big deal because the capitol is full of Zavonians and it is not every day that a family like the Stones are invited there. At this dinner Kaia learns that she is needed for an important quest. She is needed to travel to the Kingdom of Mar to deliver a very important message to the King. Kaia's life will never be the same after receiving this information. I will not say anymore about her or her quest though! I am trying really hard not to give away any spoilers! If you would like to join Kaia on her huge adventure, then I really suggest picking up this book! What would you do if your whole life has been a lie? When you are chosen for a great task, and in the process find out things about yourself that you never knew? Kaia finally learns why she was never paired with a Canonipom and I can honestly say that I was mind blown. There is no possible way that any reader could have seen that coming!

The story and the characters were all awesome! I loved the whole idea and concept of this book. It was really hard for me to read in the beginning though. I found myself a little confused and therefore, I ended up writting down notes about different places and all the different names. I think my problem was that a lot of the places had names that were all very similar so I was mixing them all up. I also found myself using a dictionary! Jessica threw some huge words at me in the beginning that I actually had to look up. I am not complaining though, I really enjoy learning new words! So, thank you for that!

I loved the sister's bond that they have with one another. Especially Kaia and Elania. It is nice to see sisters sticking together and conquering their fears. Jessica Hernandez creates and amazing world full of dragaons and other creatures. I really enjoyed Jessica's writing and her imagination. One of my favorite creatures was the flird! What is a flird you ask? A combination between a flower and a bird. Flirds are used to carry messages to and from people. How cute is that?

Kaia faces many hardships on her journey and most of them are incredibly exciting to read about. Capering On Glass Bridges truly had a vividly, beautiful world and I am looking forward to book two. There is no way I can go on living my life, not knowing what happens to Kaia! If an author leaves their readers wanting more, then they did a GREAT job!

Aunt Ruby, who has been involved in this struggle for far longer than anyone realizes, helps as much as she can while the youngsters race to complete their quest before it’s too late.

The path the three friends have chosen is dangerous, and as they race to complete their quest they learn to trust each other and accept the help of strangers that appear along the way. They learn that there is a difference between what is real and what is seen, they discover the magic that flows along the streets of New Orleans, and they realize that some mysteries are not meant to be solved.

Keys To The Sun is a Young Adult novel that will delight fans of mysteries, the supernatural, New Orleans, Vampires, adventure, and really good beignets.

"Once a key-seeker, always a key-seeker."

This is the first book I have read by Feldmar Marcel and I must say that it will not be my last! I was so surprised by this book. It really impressed me and It had my complete attention until the very end.

Keys to The Sun is about a pair of brothers, Lucas and Parker, who stay with their Aunt Ruby for the summer. There, they meet a bunch of new people and a girl named Cole. Together the kids explore Ruby's creepy old house and around the town. Ruby lives in Twilight Oaks, located in New Orleans. Twilight Oaks is said to be the home to vampires! Yes, you read that correctly. There are many myths and legends that surround Twilight Oaks. While exploring Ruby's house, the children find something unexpected in the attic. The children do not realize that this discovery will forever change their lives. Shortly after this discovery.. people are breaking into Ruby's house and following the children around. What could they want with them? The children soon learn what they have in their possession and that is when their story really begins. You will not want to miss out on their adventures! Who would want to miss out on a Norse Map, vikings, vampires, weird stones, legends, pirates and treasure? I know I definitely wouldn't want to!

"There are good and evil people. There are good and evil monsters. There is a balance."

Keys To The Sun is filled with mystery, excitement, suspense, betrayal, friendship, and bravery! There was never a dull moment and this book left me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I was constantly trying to put the pieces together the whole time and was always on the look out for new bad people! I was so caught up in this book that it almost felt like I was in it. I love when I am able to read a book and put myself into the story and the pages. Feldmar allows the reader to run around the streets of Twilight Oaks with the children while trying to solve the mystery.

Feldmar created an amazing town with lots of wonderful characters. I love the way he portrayed New Orleans and the creepy vibe. As I said before, When you can relate to the characters and bring yourself into the book with them, you know you are reading a really good book. I really enjoyed Feldmar's writing style and I highly recommend this book!

Rebirth by Skye Malone

- Goodreads Synopsis -
One summer later…
Ari Moreau knows all about dehaians, but they’ve never heard of people like her. Hidden in plain sight, the wizards of the ancient world still thrive, rich and privileged and far from the ocean magic that could kill them all.

But when an evening party turns into a bloody dehaian ambush, Ari’s hidden world is shattered. Assassins from the underwater kingdom of Yvaria have come to kill her people and only the last-minute intervention of a gorgeous boy with inexplicable powers saves her life.

Two worlds are about to collide…
But the guy who rescued her shouldn’t exist. He’s impossible in every sense of the word. And the truth of his identity means that nothing in Ari’s life will ever be the same again.

"It was beautiful. I couldn't deny that. The rush of the waves, the sense of depth just there- right there- waiting like a whole world barely beyond your fingertips."

Rebirth takes you back into Skye Malone's beautifully, creative mind! Her world is so dark, yet so beautiful! I can not even try to explain the world inside her books because I will not do it justice! The world she created is too magically for words. I was not sure what to expect from this book, going back into this world, and seeing some of the characters again. I can honestly tell you that I am not disappointed at all! Skye went above and beyond for her readers and gave us another AMAZING book! I fell in love with all the characters in this series and when I finished the 5th book, I was unsure how to feel. When I heard there was going to be more books I literally jumped for joy!

"The Beast has never left a single one of our kind alive. Yet Arabella lives."

The Awakened Fate series kind of ended with the fifth book, so this book is going back into the story, a year later, from the beasts point of view! I know, you are all probably wondering who or what the beast is, but you will have to read the series to figure all that out! Skye has given her readers some really cool creatures in her past books and continued to do so with Rebirth! Rebirth introduces another really cool creature, a Ruanir! For those who are not familiar with a Ruanir, they have magic and are similar to wizards! How awesome is that? This series really, truly has everything a book needs! There are well developed characters, awesome creatures, drama, excitement, friendship, love, betrayal, and surprises!

In Rebirth we meet a young girl named Ari. Ari is a Ruanir and to her knowledge no one knows that her kind still exist. This all changed when she was attacked on the beach by dehaian. Could the dehaian know what she is? Why were dehaian after her? But someone saved Ari. It was a boy, and this was not your average boy.. this boy was the beast! If Ari was really in the presence of the beast.. why is she still alive? Ari's whole world changes the moment she meets this boy. Her world gets turned upside down and she isn't sure who she can trust anymore. I make it sound like this book is all about Ari, but it is about the beast too! We get to see how the beast lives and what it is like being the beast. I really enjoyed this because us readers were introduced to him in previous books before he was the beast, so it is nice seeing him again. Don't feel left out! You can learn all about the boy before he was the beast too. You just need to pick up book one of The Awakened Fate Series! That is all I am allowing myself to say. I love these characters so much, therefore, I am unable to speak about them without giving away millions of spoilers! And I know.. no one likes spoilers.

"And I hadn't known what to do when she lay there, this girl who should have been afraid of me, facing asleep in my arms instead. I hadn't imagined this feeling would come back. Not again. And I didn't want it to."

Skye Malone is one of my favorite authors! Her writing is so magical and her words really transport you into her world. She knows exactly what to say to portray the perfect scene in her readers mind. I need to see this series as a movie! That would be absolutely amazing! Rebirth is everything I wanted and more as an Awakened Fate fan. You all definitely need to add this book to your TBR list! Rebirth will be available November 10th! For those of you who have not read the previous books in this series, you can get the first book here!

Happily Ticked Off by Andrea Frazer

-Goodreads Synopsis -
Former Hollywood sitcom writer and funny girl Andrea R. Frazer thought she had it all: a hunky husband, two gorgeous kids, a house in the 'burbs . . . but when her son was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, a disorder that causes uncontrollable tics and twitches, her fantasy life imploded. Terrified, she feared he would bark, scream and curse in circle time. Turns out the only person who barked, screamed and cursed was Andrea, as she went head-to-head with this confusing condition. From diet to meds, shrinks to therapists, Frazer has written a no-holds-barred mom-moir about the realities of raising a kid on the spectrum. It isn't always pretty, but it's real, and if you're as scared as she was, clarity can look pretty darn gorgeous. Written with humor, transparency and most importantly, hope, it's Andrea's desire that this book will hold the hand of every special needs parent. "May it whisper in your ear, 'You did not cause this condition. Stop blaming yourself. You are not alone.' And while you're at it, eat a taco. Life is better with a little food. (Trust me on this one.)" Andrea"

I can honestly say that I have never read a book like this before. Happily Ticked Off is the story of a mom and her journey with tourettes. I am very familiar with the term, and the tics, due to my brother actually being diagnosed with tourettes many years ago. That is mainly why this book sparked my interest so much.

Andrea Frazer is a brilliant writer and has been writing for quite some time. This is the first time I have ever read any of her work and I really enjoyed it. Frazer writes about such a serious topic but in such a humorous way. I don't think many people could do that as successfully as she did. There is a point in the book where she compares her son's tics to family members.

"Like your Aunt Sally, tics are eccentric and always changing. At least they don't wear house coats and small like old musk."

Happily Ticked Off will mess with your feelings a bit, but you come out with so much knowledge and so much information. I was surprised with the words I picked up and all the stuff I learned throughout this book. Frazer writes in such a familiar way that it is extremely easy to relate to her situation and feel all the emotions she felt. I was irritated when she was irritated and happy when she was happy and so on. Frazer wrote this book as if it was a letter to all the moms out there who are struggling with tourettes. I really recommend this book to parents and I am going to make my own mom read this book as well. Frazer is not the only mother who feels this way!

This book is a little guide full of helpful tips and insight on the subject. Frazer covers problems she faced and you may face as well with your child. The biggest problem I think she covered is tourettes in the school system. I feel like her experience with the school her son went to is so very important because children with tics can easily get made fun of, not learn, and become really distracted while at school. My brother had a lot of problems with school once he reached high school. It was nice to see that Frazer's son was doing such an amazing job in school and never really had trouble with bullying and making friends. This proves that it is all how you look at the situation.

"If you can't instantly change the tics, change your thinking."

Frazer has a hard time accepting her son's tics and does not take it well at all.. but who does? I know my mom had trouble with my brother and still does to this day. It was interesting to kind of compare the things Frazer did to the things my mother did for my brother. I liked how Frazer went the natural/ no medicine way! A lot of kids grow out of their tics as they mature, but there are always those few who don't. What I completely loved about Frazer's son is that he loves his tics. He knows what they are and he knows some kids will ask about them and he is honest with the kids that do. Her son is proud of who he is and since he loves his tics, he does not let them bother him. Such a smart boy!

Okay, I am probably giving away a million spoilers here! Sorry everyone, I feel like I can ramble on and on about this book all night. Overall, I really enjoyed reading about Frazer's journey and how her family dealt with her son's tourettes. Frazer really does have a way with words! I also enjoyed all the little quotes she added at the beginning of every chapter. Oh, and I can't forget about her humorous chapter titles! Many, if not all, chapters had the word 'tic' in the title! You can tell she put her heart and soul into this mom-moir and it definitely paid off! There is something so honest and real about Frazer's writing. It is a very touching story, and definitely one that you will want to read.

Tourettes is not the end of the world! Just the beginning of a new one.

Of Winged Creatures & Nesting Grounds by A. Wilding Wells

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Trapped in a cage…

I was running against time and desperate to conquer my fears with my “don’t forget to be awesome” plan.
One night, I was sulking over my uglier-than-homemade-sin life and reeling from another painful loss. As I thought about my new life, a handsome gent named Hunt Hardick sat next to me. He looked like a good start and was likely a hell of a finish. Suddenly, my plan took on a life of its own.

After a long day as one of San Francisco’s most prominent ob/gyns, I stopped at a bar for a bourbon and a mental break from my ex, who I couldn’t seem to bleach from my system. One glance at Happy’s tearstained angelic face and I was done. I’d never been a guy to turn down a stunning woman who also looked like a beautiful project.

Hunt was a key in my locked cage that once opened meant I might fly away.

An emotionally charged, rich with feeling story about survival, triumph, and a girl named Happy Go Lucky who had a plan. A plan that didn’t include the ruggedly sexy gynecologist who inserted himself in her life.

This is not the first book I have read by A. Wilding Wells and I can promise that it will not be the last. Yes, it is true that she likes her romance, but her books contain so much more than just romance and love scenes. One by one, her books continue to amaze me.

"He means his smiles, and not everyone does. But, with him, they seem to come from his core. And, while those smiles warm me, lure me in, they scare me."

I have no idea how I am writing right now. After reading Of Winged Creatures & Nesting grounds, I was speechless and left in a book hangover. I wasn't sure how to feel about finishing the book. I know this has happened to all of you readers out there. You are happy, because you finished the book.. but you are sad, because you are leaving the characters for a little while.

I can always count on A. Wilding Wells to write an amazing love story! I am always so excited to read her books because she never disappoints! In this story we meet Happy and Hunt. These are two very different characters, but maybe that is the point? Hunt helps Happy in so many different ways. The two change each others lives for the better, but will it last? Hunt has a problem with saying goodbye. Can this ruin their relationship? Who is Hunt not saying goodbye to? You will have to read this book for yourself to see more of Happy and Hunt's relationship and the drama they face. This is a very romantic, refreshing type of love. Happy and Hunt's love is the ideal, I don't care about looks, type of love. I need to stop typing before I start giving stuff away.! Which is extremely hard because I just want to sit here and talk about this book all day! This is a book and a love story that you do not want to miss out on!

"My demons slither away when he gazes at me."

As I stated above, A. Wilding Well's stories are not just love and romance. Happy has had an extremely rough life and has never felt accepted anywhere. She deals with inner demons and has a whole story of her own going on while she and Hunt share a love story of their own. It is nice to see such thought out and well developed characters. I felt everything that Happy felt. She is such a likable character that it is hard not to relate to her. Lets talk about Hunt now! Hunt is not your average bad boy, and isn't even your average nice boy. There is something special about Hunt and that is what makes their relationship so magical. This book had a hold of my heart and all my feelings were out of my control. Have your feelings ever been controlled by a book before? I know, it sounds super weird, but it is true! The book was controlling my feelings!

"Maybe you were mean't to be mine all along." Color flames across her cheeks. I bury my lips in her hair then whisper, "Maybe you've always been mine or always will be."

A Wilding Well's writing is so enjoyably, magical. I am a forever fan of hers and have been for a while now! Her writing really speaks to me and it is as if she picked the perfect words and wrote them down at the perfect time. Her writing flows so smoothly it is amazing. Each scene is so vivid because her writing is descriptive. I read this whole book like it was a movie playing right before my eyes! Oh, and we can not forget to talk about this beautiful cover!!! All her covers kind of match and are all so pretty and bright! They are beautiful books, inside and out.

This book is definitely a must read! Add it to your TBR list right now! Of Winged Creatures & Nesting Grounds hits shelves October 17th, 2016, so make sure to look out for it!

No Plain Rebel by M.C. Frank

- Goodreads Synopsis -
soldier is summoned to the North Pole, days before the year changes, told to fix a the great Clock for a celebration. He has no idea what to do.
A girl, hunted for the crime of being born, almost dies out on the ice. She is rescued by the last polar bear left alive.
A library waits for them both, a library built over a span of a hundred years, forgotten in the basement of an ice shack.
The world hasn't known hunger or sickness in hundreds of years. It has also forgotten love and beauty.
The year is 2525.

Inspired by the short stories of Ray Bradbury, this futuristic novel is set in a world where Christmas -among other things- is obsolete and a Clock is what keeps the fragile balance of peace.

Written in three installments, this is the breathtaking and sensual story of how two unlikely people change the world, and each other, one book at a time.

Immerse yourself into the icy cold world of this scorching hot new novel.

In No Plain Rebel, Felix finds out the truth.
Or so he thinks. He’s trying to come to terms with that, as well as with the fact that the Clockmaster’s shack has been discovered by his fellow-soldiers, but he can’t exactly concentrate. The match girl’s fiery curls appear before his eyes every ten seconds, distracting him, and then he starts talking to her in his head.
Because she’s no longer there.
The Stadium is looming in the distance.
It’s ten heartbeats to midnight.

"He doesn't just discover his heart that day; he also finds a way to make the clock work. It will beat like his heart."

No Plain Rebel is the second book in the No Ordinary Star series by M.C. Frank. Frank's books just keep getting better and better! I enjoyed No Plain Rebel more than the first book, only because I understood the story better at this point and everything really starts to make sense! You find out so much in this book and EVERYTHING finally starts to come together.

"You can't predict the course your life will take. That's the beauty of it."

After No Ordinary Star the characters are all familiar with one another and know what they have to do. The clockmaster passed down a huge task to Felix, the soldier, when he died and by now we should all know what that task is! Felix has to take over the clockmasters job and make the clock for the year 2525. The world depends on this clock and Felix does not have to face this task alone. Felix met Astra in the first book and the two are slowly growing on one another. While working together on the clock and uncovering the history of the clockmaster, the two find out some shocking news about themselves. Did Felix and Astra actually come from a family? In the future no one has familes and people are specifically created. So if the two had families.. what happened to them and what does the clockmaster know about it?

It is really awesome watching Felix and Astra grow as characters and uncovering the clockmaster's secrets. It was as if each page had a new secret on it that shocked me! You will never guess who Felix's and Astra's parents are! Felix also proves to have true friends that agree to stand with him in his plan to save the world. You will have to read for yourself to figure out who his true friends are and who his family is! This series will take you on the ride of your life! This is definitely a series that you do not want to miss out on. Frank took me out of my bedroom and into this amazing, magical world. If I could see any book becoming a movie, it would definitely be this one!

M.C. Frank is so creative and has written a truly amazing series. When I think about the characters and the world, I can not help but smile. We see a bit more of Karim, another soldier, in this book and I enjoy that. Karim is slowly becoming a favorite of mine. It is also awesome to see Felix become more and more himself as Astra helps him slowly get off those pills.

I could talk about this book forever! Everything from the pills controlling people to families being nonexistent is just all so unique. Everything in this book is so creative and just so different that it is messing with my mind. I am so mind boggled over this book and everything that has happened so far in it that I am at a loss of words and now feel like I am just rambling on. So I guess I will wrap this up and just say that everyone needs this series in their life. I am dying for book three of this series because book two left me really wanting more. This book ended with what just might be the biggest cliffhanger I have ever experienced!

No Ordinary Star by M.C. Frank

"When you see a formation that's irregular, a star that doesn't look ordinary - that's a real star and no satellite."

After reading No Ordinary Star by M.C. Frank, I can honestly say that I am a huge fan of Frank! Plus, look at how beautiful this cover is! I have said this plenty of times in my reviews, and I will say it again.. I absolutely love books that are different. I love books that you do not see everywhere, books that are super unique, and that is what No Ordinary Star is. I was so surprised and really impressed by this book. No Ordinary Star is the first book in the No Ordinary Star series.

In No Ordinary Star, you are introduced to a soldier, a woman, and a clockmaster. These three characters could not be more different but also could not be more the same. These characters are all connected in ways they could never imagine.

"These memories he's collected so meticulously over the years - they have been his own personal demons as well."

This book takes place in the year 2524, where pills are used to feed your urge to eat and sleep. No one goes hungry, no one is tired, and no one gets sick. But what price does society pay for this? What are they giving up to live such an easy life? Now as much as I would love to talk about the 2nd Enlightenment and the Elimination system, I won't! I am trying really hard to write a review without any spoilers. It is hard thought because I enjoyed this book so much that I want to talk about every single aspect of it!

The soldier soon learns that a huge task has been passed down to him and he now has to over come the challenges he faces in order to save the world. What would you do if you were a top soldier and then the next minute you weren't too sure who you were and had to save the world? Can the soldier accept his new identity? Can the soldier fulfill what he was saved to accomplish? What happens when the woman tries to help him? Can the soldier let her in?

No Ordinary Star was a bit hard to follow at first, but about half way through I started piecing everything together and the story started falling into place before my eyes. There are so many secrets that began to unfold and they blew my mind one by one! I have never read a book like this before and absolutely enjoyed it. M.C. Frank has a brilliant mind and I have no idea how this story came from just a single persons brain! This story was so complex and the characters are all so different and unique. I absolutely loved each and every character that was introduced. Frank describes each character and how he or she feels in such an incredible way, that it is almost impossible not to feel what they are feeling. I felt their emotions just as if they were my own. In books that I have read in the past, I usually relate more to one character and can feel his or her emotions. In No Ordinary Star, I was able to feel each characters emotions and that really says something about M.C. Frank. Frank gives each and every character special attention so each character is able to stand out. Some can easily say that the soldier is the main character, but in my opinion each character serves a huge purpose in this story and each are the main characters in their own ways.

The writing in this book was so beautiful and I just needed more! The fact that it took place in the North Pole made the story all the more magical. Frank used beautiful words to bring the world to life and I found myself wanting to be there! While I was reading, I was 100% engaged to the book, the characters, and the situations. I do not think I have ever been so swept up in a world before! This is a book full of magic, secrets, friendships, love, family, and challenges! This book has it all and I can not wait to read the second book in the series.

Ruby's Choice by D.F. Jones

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Ditch Lane Diaries: Ruby’s Choice is the debut novel by D.F. Jones and book one of the Ditch Lane Diaries. Ruby’s Choice is a coming of age story set in the late 1970’s in Middle Tennessee with a splash of paranormal which will blossom in the second and third books of the series. Ruby’s Choice-Everglade, Tennessee, 1977 Stuck in the Middle with Two Ever since Ruby discovered an amber-encased spider web in the Campbell Ridge Cave, she has had dreams of births, deaths and glimpses into the future. Ruby’s dreams have foretold the daughter of her high school friend, Cathy, the death of her beloved Aunt Sammie, and the coming of a new love in her life. Ruby’s shift is coming to a close at Everglade General Store. As she stacks the last row of bath soap, Ruby recalls the delicious dream she had the night before. In the dream, a gorgeous guy is kissing a tickle spot, just behind her left earlobe, sending shivers up her spine. If only that dream could come true, instead of the one where a state trooper gives her a seventy-five dollar speeding ticket! Ruby snaps back to reality when she hears the store’s front door bells chime. If she didn’t know any better, she’d say the frickin’ Adonis from her sexy dream just walked through the door. Reed Jackson and Brent Brown introduce themselves to Ruby as members of the local baseball team her brother, George, manages. Brent mentions they specifically came out to the store to meet George’s hot, little sister. Ruby is slightly confused when she hears Reed murmur Tap It under his breath, but then she remembers the rumor going around campus about Reed and Brent’s dating game, where the two best friends compete to have a girl profess undying love to one of them. And Tap It is a winner takes all—all of what, though, Ruby has no clue. Ruby decides that she’ll play along, but according to her rules. She’ll suss out if either of these players is worthy of her love and respect. One thing is for sure, Ruby is no pawn. Who will be Ruby’s Choice?

Ruby's Choice was the first book I have read by D.F. Jones. Ruby's Choice was an amazing book full of drama, mystery, obstacles, secrets, love, and friends! This book really does have it all. One thing I really enjoyed was that there were two different stories going on at the same time. D.F. Jones really impressed me. I absolutely loved all the characters and that is always a huge plus! It is hard to enjoy a book when there is a character in it that you can not stand.

This book is about Ruby and her friends Sandy and Anna, who discovered a set of stones while exploring Campbell Ridge Cave. These stones are very special stones and have picked the three girls for a reason. Each girl is now destined for something greater and at this point in time, all three are still unsure as to what it is. Ruby's Choice obviously focuses a bit more on Ruby than the other girls. Ruby is faced with a big choice in this book. Who knew this choice would be about boys! Ruby is stuck and unsure which boy to date. I can not really say more without giving things away! But I can say that these boy looked at Ruby like she was a game. Everything changed when Ruby proved that she could play the game better.

"There, I have professed my love to you, the game is over. You have won." He said," Silly goose, I told you this thing between us has nothing to do with Tap It."

As I was reading, I felt like I was watching a movie! This book was so entertaining and fun to read. I picked this book up and had it read within a few hours. I absolutely LOVE, love triangles so I ate this book up. A lot of people hate love triangles, and I have even witnessed a few people leaving books bad reviews just for the fact that they do not like love triangles. In my opinion, they make the book more fun. You are more into the relationships and you even pick a team in hopes that the person picks the boy or girl that you like better too. Love triangles are extremely frustrating and I totally feel for all the people involved, but I just love them. I already mentioned this above, but I did love how the author had Ruby's boy problems and the stone mystery going on at the same time. While reading, I had completely forgotten about the girls and their stones until the end when Ruby and the girls bring it up again. We do get a little insight on the stones and what they mean at the end! So you definitely have to read the book to see what boy Ruby picks and what the girls are destined for. You should also read this book to check out what kind of game "Tap It" is! But to be honest, you just need to read this book!

D.F. Jones really surprised me and I am so excited to finish this series. I am now a huge fan of D.F. Jones' work. Her writing was so unique and flowed so perfectly that I forgot I was even reading. I highly recommend this book.

Jason's Princess by Elise Manion

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Five years after her parents' tragic death, Julie Armstrong is still managing to raise her seventeen year old brother, Charlie. Barely making ends meet, there's no time to seek out her Prince Charming, even if one exists. This is the real world, after all, and the only eligible men in her town resemble toads with ink.

Jason King might have ink, but he's definitely no toad, even if Julie thinks he's one. He wants nothing more than to ride in on his dark horse and protect Julie and her young brother. He's sat on the sidelines way too long, keeping them safe.

But when trouble finds its way back home, Julie must rely on the one man whom she's held responsible for all her troubles for the past five years. Will she ever find her Prince?

The moment I finished Jarod's Heart by Elise Manion I knew that I was a huge fan and needed more! I patiently waited for the release of Jason's Princess and when it arrived, it definitely did not disappoint! I was so impressed. This book was everything I expected and more.

"When your eyes met mine, my heart beat so hard, I thought it was going to break a rib or two. You were the prettiest thing I had ever seen."

The King Brother novels blow my mind! They only get better and better. I am a sucker for a romance story and on top of that, Elise Manion throws in mystery and crime! Romance and crime are two of my favorite things so I find myself wondering how these books can get any better.. BUT THEY DO!  Manion's characters are phenomenal and so easy to relate to. I absolutely love each and every character in this series! Jason's Princess swept me off my feet and took me into some type of book dream land. The world did not matter and who ever tried to talk to me was irrelevant up until the moment I finished this book. Manion's words flowed so beautifully through my mind.

"Jason couldn't believe how one woman could be so beautiful just by smiling. If he hadn't loved her before, he was definitely falling hard now."

At the mention of Josh, I have to talk about Jason! Jason King is my new book boyfriend and I am head over heals for this character. In Jason's Princess, Jason falls for a girl named Julie. It was love at first sight and she was all he wanted, but Julie was in a relationship. Julie thought Jason did not notice her much and Jason thought the same about Julie. This all changed when Julie and her brother Charlie began being followed. Who is targeting them? Who could ever want to hurt them? The King brothers stand together to protect Julie and Charlie and in the process discover some seriously mind blowing information about Julie and her family. Julie is in extreme danger and has been for a while. I didn't know what to think when Manion threw this bomb at me. I still can't believe how twisted and crazy the story got! Jason King caring so much about Julie and Charlie is what melted my heart! Jason would do anything to keep Julie safe and he won me over real quick. Jason and his family are a dream. Jason's mom has such a kind soul and is the nicest person I have ever read about in a book.

I easily found myself wishing I was Julie! Julie is so very lucky to have such caring friends, family, and JASON! Me wanting to be Julie, wanting to be in the story, means that Manion's writing is so real and so vivid that I felt like I was in the book.. I felt like I was Julie at times. I lost myself in this book. Manion really has a way with her words! Her book brought me out of a reading slump that I have been in for about 3 weeks. The moment I read the first page of this book I was hooked. Once I was finished it took me forever to recover. I did not want to start reading another book because that would mean admitting that the King brother's story was over.

Jason's Princess was full of love, friendship, death, mystery, and heart break. This book has it all and I am still recovering from a Jason's Princess hangover. I need more of the King brothers in my life and if you are reading this, then I think you need some King brothers in your life as well! This is a book that needs to be added to your reading list! You will not regret it. I promise.
