"That's what's in the elixir."
"If you are going to do magick, then you will need it to keep you alive."
If you like the WaterFire Saga by Jennifer Donnelly and Harry Potter, yes I said it, Harry Potter! Then this book is for you! There are many similarities I see between the main character and the man she is suppose to defeat, and Harry and He Who Must Not Be Named!
As I have mentioned before, I am a huge mermaid fan! I have read many mermaid books and I love reviewing these types of book in particular, because I feel like I have read enough of them, to know an awesome mermaid story from a good mermaid story. Coral and Bone by Tiffany Duane just so happens to be one of those awesome mermaid stories! I love when a story surprises you and is nothing like what you thought it was going to be. This is not your average mermaid story.
Coral & Bone is full of lies, secrets, dark magick, love, friendship, guardians, hunters, mermaids, sirens, shifters, and so much more! Tiffany Duane takes you into a shimmering world full of magic and creatures. Her writing style is so beautiful and she really has a way with words.
This story is about a girl named Halen. She lost her dad when she was 9 and her family just recently decided to move back to the town it happened in. Since returning to Rockaway Beach, Halen has been feeling a bit off, a bit sick. She starts seeing a mysterious boy in her mind and hearing odd voices. One day, a boy chases Halen out of her house and into the ocean. Who was this boy and why did he have a knife? Did he want to hurt Halen? Once in the ocean Halen was taken by the boy who occupies her thoughts and dreams. Dax. Halen has no idea that her life is about to be turned upside down. She learns she is a siren, but not just any siren.
"Your birth in particular is a very rare occurrence, my dear child. You're not just any siren. You're a blue moon siren."
She learns her family has been keeping secrets from her, her whole life. Who is she? What is she doing in another realm? Who is Natalie? Why does she feel so strongly connected to Dax? and why can't she go home?
"Destiny has a way of finding you."
As I read, I felt like I was watching a movie. The words turned into characters, while the characters turned into situations, and it all played out perfectly before my eyes. You definitely have to expect the unexpected in this book. There are so many surprises and shocking situations throughout. It blows my mind how everything ended up being tied together in the end. This is definitely a book you do not want to miss out on. Oh, and lets talk about how beautiful the cover is! Just another reason why you need this book in your life! This book is easily one of my favorites now.
