Devil in the Countryside by Cory Barclay

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Devil in the Countryside is a story about the most famous werewolf investigation in history, brimming with intrigue and war, love and betrayal, and long-kept vendettas.

It's 1588, the height of the Reformation, and a killer is terrorizing the German countryside. There are reports that the legendary Werewolf of Bedburg has returned to a once-peaceful land. Heinrich Franz, a cold and calculating investigator, is tasked with finding whomever -- or whatever -- the killer might be. He'll need all the help he can get, including that of a strange hunter who's recently stumbled into town. Though they're after the same thing, their reasons are worlds apart.

And through it all, a priest tries to keep the peace among his frightened townsfolk, while a young woman threatens his most basic beliefs.

'When the big man reached the door, he turned and had a mischievous grin on his face. "You're here to find the werewolf? Well, I'm here to kill him."'

I honestly had no idea what to expect from this book. This is the first book I have read by Cory Barclay and it was amazing! Devil in The Countryside is definitely not your average book. This book is actually based on true events and I think that made this book even better! I had no prior knowledge of Bedburg and the werewolf investigation. When I finished the book I immediately had to do a little research myself. I was so intrigued by this story and its events!

Devil in the Countryside is about Bedburg and the people who live there. Everything changes when the werewolf who once haunted Germany returns. This book has a lot more going on than just werewolf killings though! You will see betrayal, love, friendship, death, war, and so much more! Barclay introduces us to Sybil and her family. Sybil finds herself right in the middle of the werewolf drama when she catches on to her dad's secrets. Why is her dad lying? Sybil knows something is up and in the process of trying to figure things out, she falls for a man. A man she is not supposed to love.

"They were becoming close - too close for a catholic priest and a beautiful young woman. But he couldn't stop his wandering mind, body, and soul. His years of training did little to prepare him for an actual encounter with such an alluring girl."

Heinrich is an investigator who wants someone or something to be guilty for the werewolf killings. He will not stop until he finds someone to blame. Does that mean he will accuse the innocent? We also meet Georg, who somewhat teams up with Heinrich. The two are trying to find the wolf behind the killings, but have completely different reasons for doing so. There are many more characters and people involved! Barclay gave us some amazing characters and I will let you guys read the book for yourself so you can meet them. I do try my hardest not to give away any spoilers. I know it is a little hard sometimes..

Barclay did an awesome job bringing an event like this back to life. He wrote about the Catholics and Protestants in such a real way. Even though these events happened in 1588/1589, I easily was able to relate to the book and put myself into it. You know you are an awesome author when your readers can relate to a set of events that we weren't even alive for. I was a little worried when I read that this book was based off of true events. Those type of books are either really good or really bad! I was surprised with how good Barclay made this story. He gave us a historical, crime, thriller which I could not stop reading until I was done with every last word.

"He realized at that moment that he looked more like a monster than he ever thought possible."

I am very impressed with this book and Barclay should be so proud! His writing is amazing, detailed, and easy to follow. I really enjoyed this book and I think you guys will too! Yeah, we have werewolf and vampire books floating all over now days, but how many werewolf stories out there are based on true events? I can only assume that there are not many!

Standing Ground by Alice Rachel

- Goodreads Synopsis -
When the authorities strike to regain control over the riots in Eboracum City and use drastic measures as retaliation against the civilians, the citizens are forced to fight back to survive. A virus has spread through the Underground, taking down the refugees one by one, soon contaminating the rebels. If Thia wants to save the ones she loves, she will have to retrieve the cure, quickly. But certain decisions are costly, and not all actions are free of consequences.

"In life and death, I will cherish you for all eternity. For my heart will always find you, my sweet, wherever you might be."

Alice Rachel blew my mind. It took me so long to finally read the second book of this series and now that I have, I find myself wondering why the heck it took me so long! This series is truly something special and like I said last year, there is no other series like this one.

Thia and Chi are now a major part of the rebellion. The two of them are an amazing team! Both are so selfless and will do anything to protect each other and the people around them. In book two, the rebellion is faced with a virus, killing the people they love, and a poisonous river, making food hard to come by. The rebellion is forming a plan to get medicine for the sick. Their plan works the first time... but not the second time.. or the third. People are dying and others are being captured. What happens when Thia and Chi find themselves surrounded by officers? What happens when Thia can't tell if she is with Chi or Stephen? How could she possibly be with Stephen? This book is fast paced and full of surprises. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! I had no idea what was going to happen next but I couldn't stop reading until I found out.

I absolutely adore Chi and Thia's relationship. They are not only a couple, but are the best of friends. These two will go to the end of the earth and back for one another. Another thing I really loved was the short stories in the back of this book. We can always count on Alice Rachel to give us a bunch of amazing extra material! Her characters are so complex and full of life. As a reader, her short stories really help me understand the characters on a whole different level. Each character has a huge background story of his/ her own.

This series has an awesome meaning, and I will forever hold these books close to me. I love that Rachel wrote a series about people fighting for what they believe in and women standing up for themselves and their rights. I could only imagine how terrible arranged marriages could be. Once again, this story really is something special and so unique! I can not wait for book three!! I am super anxious to find out what happens next!

Lose Me. by M.C. Frank

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Jane Austen meets New Adult fiction in this compulsively readable romance.

"Today is not the day I die."

Ari Demos starts every day with this thought. Fresh out of high school, she's landed a coveted role as a stunt double in a new Pride and Prejudice adaptation starring the Hollywood phenomenon Weston Spencer. But this job isn't going to be easy: Ari will be performing complicated water stunts and driving fast cars along the narrow cliffs of Corfu. One false step and she could lose not only her job, but her life.

And then Wes Spencer, Mr Darcy himself, arrives in Greece. He's got dirty blonde hair, a mile-long yacht and a bored look on that gorgeous face. Ari wants nothing to do with the rich actor boy, but on the day she meets him, she has an accident. One that almost claims her life. And now she can't hide from the truth any longer:
She might be much closer to losing everything than she thought. She might be dying. And the British actor is the last person she'd expect to save her life.

She's a hard-working island girl. He's adored by millions.
Falling in love was never supposed to be a part of the job.
Staying alive was never supposed to be a part of growing up.

Was this story ever meant for a happily ever after?

"I'll support your inner bookworm as long as it remains where it belongs, in the closet. If word gets around you're a nerd, I'm done. I'm so done."

Lose Me. has the most beautiful cover ever! I know they say to never judge a book by its cover, but I couldn't help it with this book! This book is gorgeous and I knew I had to read it! Lose me. is the third book I have read by M.C. Frank and I just love everything she writes! I truly believe her work just keeps getting better and better!

Frank introduces us to a few big names in the acting world and then there is Ari. Ari is a stunt double and just so happens to get a pretty big break in a movie. Ari lands a gig on a remake of an old classic, Pride and Prejudice. Ari has no idea how much this role and the people around her will change her life forever. Ari learns a lot about herself and also finds herself falling for a boy. Ari has one problem though. She is hiding a very big secret that could hurt everyone around her. Will her secret ruin this opportunity for her? Will her secret ruin her life? Can Ari open up to someone and ask for help? Or will this secret be the death of her? Lose Me. is full of surprises and crazy twists! This book has absolutely everything a good book needs. This book consists of awesome characters, a great story, romance, action, drama, betrayal, family secrets, and near death experiences!

I absolutely love Ari and Wes! My ultimate number one book boyfriend ever is Warner from the Shatter Me Series, but Wes is giving Warner a run for his money. Wes is absolutely amazing and You guys really need to read this book so that you have the pleasure of meeting him for yourselves. Wes is not the only amazing character, we meet so many other fun personalities. Like Ollie! But I can not tell you guys too much about anything because I do not want to give anything away. This book is way too amazing to spoil for anyone.

"I had no idea before today. Before the familiar feeling of his skin molding to mine, before his lips crushing to  mine, before his body pressed against mine. I had no idea that we became a different version of ourselves when we're with someone; that we're different when we're alone."

M.C. Frank is a word genius! I have no idea how she wrote such an awesome book. This book had me feeling every emotion possible. I was super mad at times and then one second later, I was super happy! This book really messed with me, but in a good way! I love Frank's writing and there is no other author that writes the way she does. Lose Me. is written in such a detailed way that I found myself picturing the whole book in my mind. I felt like I was there with Ari watching her story play before my eyes.

I absolutely adore this book! This is definitely a story I will hold close to me. It is also a story that you all need on your bookshelf or in your kindle! CUTEST STORY EVER!

The Sound Of Love by Maria Watts

- Goodreads Synopsis -
It is the nineties, the decade of boy bands. Every girl is in love with the Funky Guys, the most famous boy band of them all, dominating the charts worldwide.

Nina Bains is a normal schoolgirl from Southampton. She lives the life of every teenager going to school, hanging out with her friends and fantasizing about Chris Mulligan, one of the charismatic lead singers of the Funky Guys.

Until one day by sheer coincidence Nina has the chance to get to know Chris personally. They fall in love and their two worlds collide with such a force that Nina is knocked out of her everyday life before she even realizes what is happening. As she is drawn more and more into Chris' world, she suddenly finds herself on tour with a boy band phenomenon in a whirlwind of fancy hotels, tour buses, venues, fans, groupies and music. Soon she realizes all that glitters is not gold and she has to question everything she once believed in.

Will Nina survive life on the road? Is her love for Chris worth risking everything? And above all: Does Chris even understand the meaning of love?

"It's strange how pure bliss and utter misery can go so closely hand in hand. I don't think I have ever laughed as much and cried as much as I have in these past weeks. And above all, I have never felt more alive."

Maria Watts is AMAZING! The Sound of Love is the first book in The Sound Series. This book tore my heart out! I was so happy at times and then so sad and mad at others. This book is real. This book doesn't sugar coat life as a popstar. This book is cute but also dark, deep, and sad. This book is everything.

"The moment our eyes meet I'm lost. I've always thought his eyes were special even in all those pictures I've seen of him, but nothing comes close to seeing his eyes shining with life and staring at me."

Watts introduces us to 16 year old Nina and her best friend, Lucy. The two girls are OBSESSED with a boy band called The Funky Guys. Nina may be a tad bit more obsessed with the band, which is funny because Lucy is actually the one who got Nina into their music. Nina, got extremely lucky one day, and ended up in a phone conversation with Christopher, the cutest boy from The Funky Guys. Who would have known that one phone call could change her life forever? Nina went from waiting to see the guys in concert to waiting to meet up with her friend Chris before his concert. You may be thinking, How did Nina get so lucky? but.. did she really get lucky? Can a popstar be in a relationship? Wouldn't you think he gets girls all the time? Would he really pick Nina over all the millions of girls that love him? You guys will have to pick up this book to find out what happens after Chris and Nina meet. This story will blow your mind and leave you completely speechless! Chris and Nina's lives will never be the same. As misunderstood as Chris is.. his life as a popstar, traveling the world, just got a whole lot harder.

"A warm feeling spread through my body and I started laughing giddily. Even at that moment I realized something significant had happened. But little did I know how much this day would change my life forever."

Watts has an amazing talent! I loved this book and after reading it, I was so mad at myself for not reading it sooner! Watts brought these characters to life right before my eyes and this story felt so real to me. She picked the perfect words, the perfect characters, and the perfect story! I am totally obsessed with this series and anxiously awaiting the second book! It really can't come soon enough.

I know I already said this, but this story tore on my heart strings like there was no tomorrow. I could not believe what was happening sometimes! This book had so many twists and surprises. One second I was reading about something cute and then BAM, in the blink of an eye, I was reading about something bad. I was on the edge of my seat the whole book trying to figure out Chris! I don't know if I like him or if I hate him yet.

I am a forever fan of Maria Watts! Watts shows us the real, raw side of being famous and traveling the world. You guys do not want to miss out on this book! If you love drama, romance, secrets, betrayals, adventures, and boy bands, then this book is for you! Go buy it or add it to your TBR list now! You will not regret it.

The Blue Horse by Jill Hand

- Goodreads Synopsis -
Fact mixes with fantasy as a hairless blue horse discovered in South Africa in 1860, grazing with a herd of zebra, becomes the object of a quest by a trio of unlikely time travelers. Rosina, an intrepid Victorian young lady, her fiance, Ned York, who was imprisoned in the Tower of London by his uncle, Richard III, and the irascible Olga from Czarist Russia must work together to obtain the horse from its owner, an amiable but none-too-bright English peer who has scandalized his neighbors by marrying a circus bareback rider. Along the way are visits to two bizarre fin de siecle Paris nightclubs and an encounter with a talking brass head who tells the worst ghost stories you have ever heard. There's also a demanding, narcissistic twenty-fourth-century celebrity who wants to make a troupe of convincing-looking fairies appear to Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Rosina encounters an unexpected person on her trip to the past to obtain the blue horse: Her father. He's only nineteen and has no idea who she is. Should she warn him of the railway accident that will kill him twenty-six years in the future and lead to her becoming a time traveler? Complicating things further is a shady character claiming to be an American millionaire who wants the blue horse for reasons of his own.

"As for myself, I was anxious to see the blue horse. I still found it hard to believe that such an extraordinary creature existed."

This is the first book I have read by Jill Hand! I can honestly say that this book is truly something else! It is so unique, full of travel, bright characters, and adventure!

Jill Hand takes us into New Jersey, where time travel is a real thing, and your average travel agency is not what you think it is! We are introduced to Rosina, who just so happens to work at this unique travel agency. What is Rosina going to do when she is asked to go back in time and complete a very difficult/ life threatening task? Can Rosina possibly choose a different, not so crazy task? A task involving a blue horse? If Rosina proceeds with the task originally given to her, someone is going to die. Can Rosina find this blue horse? Can Rosina handle who and what she will see along the way? You will have to pick up this book to find out! I would love to just sit here and type the whole story but I am really trying to not give away any spoilers. Nobody likes spoilers... and you know I am right.

Jill Hand not only takes her readers on a crazy adventure, but she also gives her readers awesome characters! You will meet so many of Rosina's friends throughout the book. My favorite would have to be Olga. Olga is so funny and daring! Her characters and personality stands out so much. It is definitely hard to miss Olga.

"Aren't you afraid you'll go to hell someday, for telling such terrible fibs?"
"Not at all. Remember, we already got thrown out of hell while in paris. I'd say it is the Devil who should watch out for me."

I really enjoyed this book and the way that it was written! I feel like it takes a special author to successfully write a book about time travel and not confuse their readers. I have read a few extremely confusing time travel books. I was a tad bit nervous to start this book in the beginning but as I read, I loved it and thought it was well written. Jill Hand really knows how to paint a picture in your mind and make you feel like you are best friends with her characters. I felt like I was in the past with Rosina, Ned, and Olga trying to find this blue horse that everyone wants! It is always super awesome when you can put yourself in the book and feel like a part of it.

Overall, this book was a very entertaining, short read! If you are a fan of time travel then I highly recommend this book.
