- Goodreads Synopsis -
Bullying is nothing new to Terrence Young. The teasing and harassment are constant. His family is less than understanding as well. To them, Terrence chose to be gay and complicate their lives. Their little rejections sting and cut him deeply.
But when the Deviance Act is passed, Terrence's life takes a turn for the worse overnight. Under the new law, a mere look, a simple touch, or a small kiss in public could mean death. Terrence attempts to hide his orientation to survive. That is until a gang attacks him in a bar and Chase Martinez interferes.
Chase is gorgeous, kind-hearted, and he's a rebel in the Underground—all qualities that attract Terrence so much there is no stopping the fall. Loving Chase might be dangerous, but Terrence is done living in fear and letting others dictate what is right for him.
"Loving Chase might be dangerous, but Terrence is done living in fear."
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Alice Rachel and her books! Her books are really something special and I will forever hold each and every one of her characters close to my heart.
Rachel finally gives us Terrence's story and it is not a very happy one. Terrence's story broke my heart and he does not deserve a lot of the bad things that happen to him. Terrence is gay, which is a deviant act where he is from. Terrence could be sentenced to death for being gay. He is forced to basically hide who he is in order to save his own life. He also has huge family problems. Terrence is blamed for the death of his mother, his dad refuses to have a gay son, and his sister, Esther, is just plain mean. Terrence has a really hard life until he meets Chase. Chase is the first person to stick up for Terrence. Chase wants to protect Terrence. But what happens when Chase doesn't understand how important it is to hide that you are gay? Chase and Terrence are from two different worlds. Could this work?
Terrence is a short story that goes along with the rest of Rachel's series. The Under Ground series is something you guys do not want to miss out on! Rachel's writing is so inspiring and she really makes you see things and understand things. Her books are easy to relate to because we see a lot of things she writes about in today's society. I think that is a big reason that I love this series so much! Rachel really makes you feel as if you are in the story with her characters and I truly hurt for Terence when he hurts and I was happy with him when he was happy. I really felt his pain and that is how you know you are reading a GREAT book!
I really enjoy how Rachel gives us short stories focusing on characters from her series! It really allows the readers to get a better understanding of the characters and their background history. I just love everything about this series and I am a huge forever fan of Alice Rachel!
